-10- Lesley Busby, Colour Manager Nissan Design Europe “We’re always thinking three to four years ahead,” says Lesley Busby, Colour Manager at Nissan Design Europe. “We’re looking at new technologies, start-ups, new business cases – until we understand what will make consumers choose a car in the future.” With Ariya however, this presented a bigger challenge than usual – but also offered an unprecedented opportunity. That’s because this time the starting point was Nissan’s all-new electric vehicle platform. For Design Manager Chetan Chohan it was “a total game changer” that allowed the team to push beyond any known horizon. With the traditional engine gone – in a car with a combustion engine, the powertrain runs through the centre like a chunky spine – the team could rethink the whole interior of the car and reinvent it as a living space. After all, it’s the first impressions that counts, says Busby: “How do we want the customer to feel when they open the door of this new premium electric car for the first time?”
